What Would a VF vs. Tekken Game Do for the Series?

Notice that its Tekkens project director thats being interviewed. So in theory you'd expect him to refer to his game's own fans..

Even is they made them game, I guarantee you it'd be a totally different game system than either game has now. X-Men vs Street Fighter isn't like Street Fighter 2 at all. Each character is so highly tuned to the mechanics of the games they are in, I think it would be impossible to really preserve the mechanics of just one game...

I'm all for it if they decide to do it. Not because "dude, it would rock!!!" or any other silly notions of "would the game work" or whatever. I'm concerned for VF (obviously) for the one major thing that would come out of this: publicity.
They say any publicity is good publicity and we all know that works great for celebrities but not so much for video games but picture this: regardless of what engine gets used, regardless of whether the game is at least average or better, the one thing that really matters is that the VF characters make a good showing. If the game is balanced in the sense that there are top tier characters from both franchises withing the game, Tekken fans (the majority) will be interested in looking into VF.

That's it. That's all I care about. Getting more people to take a look at and play VF will lead to more converts than the ones we currently have (which is bigger than most people think).
It would be great if the game turned out good but I'm not going to get my hopes up for that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

This is some-what off topic, but I would like to see a VF tag like tekken tag but I don't have much of an idea on how that would work lol.

Exactly. We don't know if there will be a VF6. That's why I said a Tekken vs VF game could actually help the chances we see a VF6 sooner then we would without a VS game. I'm starting to feel like we won't see a new VF for a long time. I want VF5:R, but I'd say the earliest we would see that on consoles would be 2010 and that's a maybe.

Well, I'm not saying that a VS game would be more probable then VF5:R being released, but what I'm saying is a VS game with Tekken would probably be more profitable then Sega releasing VF5:R.

So when you think about the possibilities of this happening with the current state of VF it's not that FAR from actually developing into something that could happen.

    I agree 100% with you.

I'm not really concerned with this game being as good as VF5, I'm more concerned with it reviving the series for future publicity and future releases.

I agree too. I would like to add hopefully it would give a hint of the depth vf5 has over tekken, and hopefully tekken fans would persue that, like one might move from checkers to chess when they see the greater opportunities for complexity : )

Though a Virtua Fighter VS Tekken sounds like an interesting game, I hope that Sega and Namco will engage in this project. I can imagine on how the process be like for Tekken fans to be curious on the V.F. series. First, Namco will have to be the ones to work on the game. They will be the ones to modify the V.F. characters into Tekken game play. Second, once the game is released, Tekken fans, some whom might not never played the V.F. series before, will be curious on how the series is played. Third, once they played the games and are confident in mastering certain fighters, maybe the V.F. series may experience an increase of fans.[/size]

The chances of such a game as far in all honesty is very likely 0% and no higher than 5% (neither company would be willing share their deepest secrets with each other at all.). The game if were ever made it would best benefit VF because of the publicity it would get. Tekken would most like see small decrease in its popularity if any because once the people see just how VF characters and the system really is they might jump ship (alot of people don't even give VF a chance and have no real reason to bad mouth the game when they say bad things about it like saying the gameplay is too slow compared to Tekken based on youtube videos)

There will never be a Tekken vs. VF game. Ever. It's just too different.

    1. Tekken games are always set in a closed or infinite stage. There are no ring outs in Tekken, as oppposed to VF, which is the foundation of all stage variations on every VF game. VF doesn't yell out 'great' when you win on 5% health, either.

    2. The timer. VF has split second timing, as opposed to Tekken, again, just whole seconds.

    3. The input of the buttons is too different, but that can be fiddled with. Tekken has Tekken controls, VF has VF controls, that's that.

    4. Weight. I don't know about Tekken 6, but on Tekken 5, I can do the same Asuka combo on a heavyweight as the same as a lightweight (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif RP> LP> LP, RP, LK). VF knows how heavy the fighters are, and how fast they fall.

This has to take the cake as the most irrelevant thing said in this thread.

Same with stages, just make all of them walled. Or infinite, since VF has actually had an infinite stage.

No it didnt. VF3's desert stage had an invisible wall, it was just far out.

Tekken relies on movement far too much, and the very selfsame thing is what I hate. Annoying backdashing has been creeping to VF in VF5 as well, and it annoys me to no small extent. There is no middleground with that. I wouldnt play VF if it had tekkens movement. And all the other hundred little things that we have grown used to and what really make these games tick.
Tekken and VF's game systems are based on different kind of concepts. I dont believe a marriage is possible. Not that I would play it anyway.

ps. TEkkens combos are ugliest in any game ever.

pps. I just woke up, have to be grumpy on something.. :p

Seeing as Jinpachis fireball is about the only thing in tekken that even I can sidestep, my guess is yes.

my question is would tekken fighter still turtle and VF fighters be able to tactic dash? virtua fighter > tekken but if they did make this itd be uneven for sure because tekken has hard hitter attacks like pauls punch and not to mention devil jin can and laser people cmon and yoshimitsu can teleport and drain health not even durals spamirific combos stand a chance to cheap ass moves like that and look ill be vf till the day i die but we all know when it comes down to it law wins jacky no sweat tekken fighters combo to easy and spam to fast for vf fighters to keep up.
