    hi.

    i'm new here, this is my first post on versus city. yall seem 2 b quite nice so i registered.

    um... i got virtua fighter on monday and i been playin it for the last days. after tryin out some characters i chose to spend more time into practising with JACKY, cause he got a cool, fast, bruce lee-type style, that ain't too hard for beginners to maintain.
    to improve i already did a lotta training. i did the command training a lotta times, and the trial as well.
    but... since yesterday i feel my methods of improvement aint that successful, as i don't see any progress in my skills no more. i don't wanna sound impatient cause i got the game only three days ago, but either i'm doin something wrong, or the game is just too hard to believe. normally i consider myself as an above average-talented gamer. i entered kumite with my jacky character, but i can't get nowhere past 1st dan, and on arcade i can't beat Akira in normal difficulty. i seen many ppl in here that got high king rank.
    i don't wanna bitch around or somn, IN THE END... i just wanted to ask if yall got sum advice for me on how to improve. should i do the trial training over and over? should i keep away from kumite until i mastered 'very hard'?
    i'd like to know ur tips on how to practise in a good, effective way.

    peace<<<

    Stuck at first dan? Most likely you're not doing what you've learned in trial training. It doesn't matter how good you are at evade->throw escape-> guard after a blocked move if you forget to do it. The thing I'd suggest looking at in trial mode are his series and combos, they're actually useful. Remember to evade and punish obvious counterattacks, to block and throw big moves using one of your two good throws (f,b+P+G and df,df+P+G), and to go for every knee or beatknuckle opportunity you can.

    It's not hard, but also not too easy to get High King for Jacky - CPU won't lose in guessing game. But it can be beaten without any guessing games. Few rules:

    1) as a round opener - try P+K,P,K or P+K,K
    2) master Step-in Iaigeri and follow ups - it's a very good move against CPU.
    3) be a machi - and ub+K is one of the most important moves against CPU.
    4) learn how to block various attacks from various characters. When do you have frame adventage (don't forget about b+P), try to throw (mix up different throws) or go with f+P->follow ups or f+K -> juggles.
    5) don't use ANY sweeps (except MC K+G d+K+G) - only for OTB hits
    6) FC,df+P (and follow ups after MC) is your friend;)
    7) after knockdown, NEVER USE any rising attacks against 2nd Dan or higher ranked opponent. Better try to stand up with imidiately d+P (that should be MC), then df+P,P+K - to maximum charge, then P+K,P,K or f+P,P,K (it's not always guaranteed). CPU in VF4 is dumb when it comes to chargeable moves. In most cases, it will be just standing and blocking, waiting with patientce till you hit him = guard break - with your max charged move... This rule is for ALL characters in VF4

    thanx a lot 4 ur advice.

    robyrt u were kinda ight. i did the trial w/ evade & throw escapes a lotta times, but so far i didn't really use it often in fights. so far it was like, i did so many trial lessons at once and couldn't use them all together in fights. i guess i should do only one lesson at a time in trial, then master it in arcade, and after that proceed to the next one...

    kali, thanx 4 all the advice. i see yall on the board are all real advanced players. i wonder how long it took yall to become that skilled and a high king... well whatever ill need to practise from now on.

    I am not exactly an expert at Virtua Fighter either, but this is a good Jacky combo that I use a lot;

    At any point in the fight (preferably at the beginning or at the end but it doesn't matter) press;
    [P][P][4][P][P][K]
    This will make Jacky do a double punch forwards, then a small spin punch, then another forward punch and then he will charge up and do a very poweful kick!
    Note; if you want to do the ending kick but with less power and less charge up then simply press R2.
    Another good combo that I like to use a lot is;
    [P][P][6][K][2][P][K][K]
    It is a very fast combo (but a little hard to pull off) and it will start with a double forward punch, then a step forward, then a single side kick to crouch, then a crouching punch and two rising kicks if done correctly, the two combos in line one after the other will probably flatten your opponent! (plus, when the enemy is on the floor, press [8_][K] or [3][P] and Jacky will either jump up and stomp on them or do a downwards punch for a lot of damage!)

    Anyway, thanks for reading this, it was cool to write!
    Bye! /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

    Best practice tips:
    1. Go to the front page of this site, click jacky's name on the left, and you'll see a movelist and some of the site's best Jacky posts.
    2. Go through the complete trial training mode in PS2, it teaches a lot of useful stuff.
    3. Use the search button to find other stuff like strong jacky combos.

    Man, I was in your exact position about a couple weeks ago. Getting through the kyu ranks was pretty brainless, but then getting past 1st dan was just impossible. I must've lost like 50 matches trying to get to 2nd.

    The combos that the guys before me are all very good and u should definitely incorporate them in your game. But you should also remember to block and evade hit. the evade hit is pretty good and deals with pesky characters like akira.
    Another good round starter (and during the fight as well) is [3][K]+[G], then do [3][P],[P],[P] at once.
    Not guranteed and the first kick has to connect. but it works MOST of the time against the computer. the CPU will get hit by the kick, and then try and counterhit, but by then u shoud've already started punching him. u can then finish him off with a [9][P].
    JUst be careful that teh CPU wont just stand there and block after the first kick, or it wont work.

    And like I said, evade alot, esp against normal Akira in arcade mode. And throws also help alot, so learn the guranteed throw moves for your opponents. I thought I'd never get past 1st dan, but now i'm Thunderlord. Just practice alot, and always keep defense in mind.
