Who here prefers/still plays the older VF games?

Would shell out for loads of these 'Live Points' if a good arcade conversion of VF3 appeared on there, what a classic! Still looks remarkable, and the music is phenomenal.

Of course, they would have to advertise, and hype it up a bit, so... Sega being Sega, the odds aren't so good unfortunately [IMG]

Do I prefer past VFs? No. There are facets of the older games that I miss; music, stages a few moves for certain characters (Sarah's old [3][K][K][K], [9][K]+[G] and now [6][6][K] apparently) etc. But it's mostly just nostalgia. The latest VFs have allowed players to select past music and It'd be easy for Sega to provide VF1 style polygon skins and stages for all characters (like they did in the US/JP - but not the PAL territories...the bastards - of the home version of VF4 EVO) via VF.NET.

Virtua Fighter in my opinion is one of a handful of series that on the whole improves with each iteration. There may be a few niggles here and there but I've eventually adapted and grown to love each version as much as the last, if not more.

VF2 is special to me because it's the first version I owned on console, while during VF4 I was heavily invested in my local arcade scene. But like I said; it's nostalgia, it has no baring on actual gameplay, which for the most part I believe each VF builds upon in a positive manner.

I still play Virtua Fighter 4 Evo and I play Virtua Fighter 2 on my PS2. Through VF4Evo, I play the special anniversary edition of the original Virtua Fighter as well. I imported my copy of Virtua Fighter 2 for my PS2 and I still love it. The only one I never got into was Virtua Fighter 3TB. It is the black sheep of the VF family and it's just out of place. I loved my Dreamcast but VF3TB was not the fighting game of choice for me.

What's with the hatred of strings??? Didn't VF2 have strings (Lau, Pai, Jacky, Sarah, Kage had a few at least)...

I liked the days when Strings were synonymous with combos, I was also 8 at the time probably.

I like strings that require hit checking.

^Yeah, hit checking for the offensive, but I like the defensive element that comes from VF's strings. Knowing that the third hit is either this or this. This move at this point is half spinning so I can avoid to backside. Stuff like that appeals to me a lot.

The first VF title I ever played was Virtua Fighter 2 on an arcade cabinet while we were moving from Philadelphia to Florida. I can't remember where we were, but I'm almost certain it was at a bus station (because we rode Greyhound down there, and I don't remember any sightseeing in between). Regardless of where we were, I was almost ten years old, and I picked Jacky (because I'd only played Street Fighter II before that, and Ken is my main man). I don't remember who my little brother picked (might have been Jacky; I hate it when someone else picks my guy), but all I remember is getting pissed at him, because I wanted to test out moves, and he kept mashing wildly at me. We only played one round, since those were all the quarters my mother allowed us, but I remember vowing to play that game again, someday.

Oddly enough, I didn't even notice that it was made by SEGA. I've always been quite the SEGA fanboy, so that in particular surprises me. Regardless, as much as I enjoyed VF4EVO and VF5, I still consider Virtua Fighter 2 to be the reason why 3D fighters are what they are. It really is the be all, end all of 3D fighting games.

I couldn't agree more. There is something so infinitely awesome about VF2. I even feel that way a bit about VF3 for its differences from the other ones, but VF2 will always have a special place in my mind.

I'm slowly but surely trying to learn some VF4:evo. I don't understand why people discarded it so readily for VF5.

VF4EVO got me into playing the Virtua Fighter franchise and I still love it, but don't prefer it. Sure there are minor details I miss in VF5 but in contrary to other fighting games, VF evolves with every new game.
I never had a chance to play the first or second one and only a few sessions of VF3 in my holiday (I was 7 or something)

    P.S.: VF5 has a luchadore, 'nuff said

Unfortuantely, yes. Why? New games are just a rehash of much older ideas, which does make things primitive in an underwhelming way for me.
