I've seen a lot of people say Chibita's the best, a lot say Akira Kid (ShinZ), some say Yamidore...then there are players like Se-Girl and Bun Bun Maru. So who's the best?

I think the easiest way to judge is by the numbers. You can watch shinz or chibita all day in clips and say that both players play very strong games, but we KNOW chibita's 92% (or around there) with something like 8,000 games under his belt. We also know he's playing high level VFers all day (read uk dude's post about how the arcade is divided into sections... one area for scrubs, another for intermediates, another for masters...)

So my vote goes to chibita because Japan has a larger VF scene than anywhere else, and we know the level of play is very strong. It's clear that chibita plays dozens of games every day and wins better than 9 out of 10. We have no idea if ShinZ is playing a wide variety of people or just the same handful of guys how close he is to 10,000 wins, and most importantly no idea whether he wins 9 out of 10 matches or maybe only 8 out of 10.

Shinz is definitely creative, gotta give him credit for that.

    Shinz!

His Lei is super sick! I hope he uses Lei instead of Akira in the world tournament. Is there a world tournament?

And who's the vf4 japan national champion now?

while we are on this subject, can we talk about who we think does best with each character?(so for example, the best lion player would be chibita, the best akira player...)

would like to see how people's opinions stack for all 13 characters.

plz dont flame me for this. For me the best AKIRA i have seen is adamYUKI! Yea, yea i know the japs are this and the japs are that, but i am very confident that he could compete with them on a high level. Best SHUN player, my boy GHETTOSHUN(nelson), just play him and you will see why. Best Jefrry, unfortuanately it's not me /versus/images/icons/frown.gif, I don't know who even plays him now on a high level. KASHIWA where are you man, fucking come out of retirement already! *SIGHS* Best KAGE the cool small guy, ICE-9.... Yea I know these are all american players, but i am basing it on what i have personally seen with my own eyes. Sure we have all seen alot of movies of kyasao and other playing, but all we ever see are the really good matches, where are the bad matches where they occassionally get raped. I am sure they have off days, after all they are just human. Since there human, I am sure any one of us who plays on a high level can take them a couple of times. I know the japs are good, but don't you guys think it's time we started believing in some of the US players as well. After all they don't spend countless hours of their life playing VF to just be over looked by players who dont even know who they are and dont play in their region. So come on people lets give some of the guys here a chance and idolized them for a change. I know which US player I idolized, do you?

aww..thanks for the recognition dog - but "I am not worthy Prime, i am just a soldier...."

You are only as good as your comp. Them niggaz in nippon got thousands of GREAT players, whereas we got a few. They will naturally breed more higher level niggaz than us. You are right, maybe a few players here can take em a few games, but i think consistency (streaks) is a good gauge of skizzills. They will consistently kik our asses while we will get lucky here and there. I personally would never be satisfied with having a win "here and there".

anyways you might be right dog... but wasn't Hot Rod just a mere soldier also, who rose to become a true leader.

anyways what i am trying to say dog, is that I belive in my heart we can beat the japs on a consistant level. maybe not by much, but it can be done. the problem is that alot of the players in the US(no offense guys) they talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Everyone wants to be good, but alot of us are not truely dedicated and no one wants to travel to get good. Even if someone is already good, and they get beat by a scrub or something a couple of times in a row. They sometimes doubt themselves and give up. I just think that if we all tried our best to get together and take this thing seriously I think we can reach that silver lining. Sure its great to idolized the japs man, but I think we should all come together and show them that there are atleast a couple of peeps here who are so good that we can call them U.S. TETSUJINS! I just want to point that out the everyone cause I think vf4 is gonna be big once it drops this month, in 6 months I think everyone and there momma is gonna want to challenge someone. So I say we come together for ourselves and hope that some great players will emerge from this, and hopefully the japs or someone will notice. Who knows maybe it can even lead to them having vf tournaments at those street fighter B thingy ( B6 i think is whats coming up) Fuck if the street fighter crowd can gain that much recognition that they get challenge by the japs every fucking year, I say the vf crowd should have that chance too. But how are we gonna have that chance, if we don't start believing in the peeps we got here and not the one out there that most of us will probably never even meet.

    continuing Transformers theme...teehee

A tetsujin will rise from our ranks...and light our darkest hour...

I think it would be great to do what UK-guy and the rest of U.K crew did in Japan. But it is easier for peeps in U.K to get together than it is for peeps in U.S, as the distance is just too great for certain players to travel. I too feel that there will be gatherings in the near future with MANY players - so that is a start. All we can do is train hard in our respective cities/clans and get together every few months. Shang and i talked about it briefly and felt it was very feasible between NY and Boston at least (only 3 hours away each way). I know i am down for a gathering pretty much anytime/anywhere, and i think a few others are as well. But i think the interest and therefore attendance will improve as soon as people start reading recounts of the many gatherings that start to take place in the near future. Then, i do see a few American-style tetsujins emerging...and we'll take a group trip to Japan one day like the Brits did.

I would have to go with Shinz also. He is just down right nasty with Akira, Jacky, Lei, etc, etc.

After him, I choose me, then Chibita. hahaha!! /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

    (not really)

heh, no flames, I think it's cool you want to base it on what you've seen...
but can you say for sure that in japan adam would consistently win 5 out of every 6 games he played ? That's what we're talking about for Mukky's Akira. And he's got over 8,000 wins according to UK-Guy.

    My guesses for best:
Akira - mukky (but Shinz might be a close second. Heck, maybe he's better.)
Kage - Kyasao. Nobody else can pull off tough wins even while appearing to fuck around.
Jacky - Shinz. His Jacky's great, he's played Jacky well since VF2. The green Jacky in the Daioh clips is also awesome.. is it Neotower? Iron Elbow?
Sarah - In VF2 it was Ike. Sarah, but these days.. the guy isn't famous enough to have a name, whoever it is. Wolf - Se-girl. BunBun is still active, but I hear nothing about him. Except that he lost that Del-ray tournament to a Kage despite some smart playing. And we know Se-girl won a tournament.
Jeffry - another VF2 dropout, Kashiwa was the best once, now I dunno.
Lau - I seem to remember someone saying chibita plays lau. That's my vote. Another guy named Edo is supposed to have an emperor lau.
Pai - ??? it's one of those who-gives-a-crap things. Too bad, I like Pai.
Shun - I've seen so many great shuns, it's hard to say who's best. Early in the game's history a Shun player was supposed to have racked a ton of wins and had a higher percentage than anyone else, plus a tournament victory. Damned if I can remember who it was.
Lion - duh. I don't think anyone will argue.
    Aoi - Gerira
Lei - ?Shinz? ... Edo also has an emperor-level Lei Fei.
Vanessa - ??? Nobody likes her. For all I know, it's Myke. =D

last week, I saw Segaru with a 10-dan Vanessa. Skeleton's Kage has also moved above the conquerer level.

I didn't stay long enough to see all the top rank guys but when I was there, there seemed to be a large bottle neck of guys trying to get out of the 10-dan and mini-conquerer ranks. (without much success)

I know, most of us will never meet the people being discussed here. But for what it's worth for the people who care for whatever strange reason. . .

I read in TBZone that a moderately well known emperor level Aoi player from Japan visited Akira Kid's hideout a while ago. (Unannounced, but fortunately there was a guy who spoke Japanese there so he was introduced to the Korean players playing there, including Akira Kid/Shinz.) The Japanese Aoi player managed to beat Shinz after getting beaten by his Akira twice, but then Shinz pulled out his Jacky and proceeded to win double digit streak.

Well, what does this anecdote tell? Nothing too definite I guess, especially that the settings in Korean arcades are a little different from the Japanese ones and the Japanese player had to adjust. May mean that his Jacky is more dangerous than his Akira.

CreeD maybe right that Akira Kid doesn't get as much competition as the Japanese guys do. But seems that he showed he is at least as good as the upper echelon Japanese players. Given competition, he probably would be as good as the creame of the crop Japan has to offer, if he is not already.

Vanessa - ??? Nobody likes her.

I read somewhere that Kurita (the former Taka player) had a 10th Dan Vanessa.

This may seem like an odd question, but how do these players afford their hobby? I mean, Chibita's played close to 10000 games, right? I'm not up to speed on how much a VF4 credit costs, but around here it would be $1-2 per match. Does the champion play for free while each challenger uses a credit? Even if that were true, these guys must be spending thousands of dollars.
