A gay person calling other gay people queer might be the same as a black person calling another black person "nigga". But a non gay person calling a gay person queer can sometimes be taken about the same as a white person calling a black person nigger. It maybe has a little less impact because people throw around 'queer' and 'fag' in everyday speech more than 'nigger'. But it can still bother people.
