    Thanks for the link.

Time to bitch for the sake of bitching.

I'm getting increasingly pissed as I digest what I just read. I want to keep loving Sony consoles for their exclusives - namely Gran Turismo and VF. Those games are the reason I own PS2. They are my favorites and I was willing to ignore the flaws.

Now I start to think about how often I'm actually getting fucked.

Gran Turismo has actually gone somewhat downhill overall since the first game. Sure - the graphic modeling of cars and tracks is phenomenal - but the AI sucks ass and there is no online component. Car physics has stupid flaws, too. To top it off, GT3 saw my favorite driving controller - a cool little handheld with a knob for a wheel and two spring-loaded analog buttons for gas and brake - go UNRECOGNIZED when I plugged it in to my PS2. Fuck that.

VF? No Final Tuned on console. Fuck that, too.

VF5 - PS3 exclusive. Yes. I want to buy it. Yes, I will buy it the day it comes out. Fuck me.

GT5 (if there is one) - PS3 exclusive most certainly. Probably with 11 sucky AI drivers and no online. I'll probably not be able to use my GT Force Pro FF wheel with it, either. Fuck me - again.

I swear, x360 and the upcoming Forza2 will have me going into my attic to run some network cable to the living room. Fuck wireless.

Of course that means I'll have to buy an x360 and start enjoying online racing. Fuck me and Sony.

yeah, to be honest, I think there's almost no better example of Sony bullshitting a fan-base than the GT fans.

You're right, the game seems to have gotten worse, or at least stayed the same to the degree that lack of innovation makes it seems like it's getting worse since the first one. They've been promising so many things for years: Online Play, a car collection that would eventually include every car ever manufactured into production (remember this claim?), how about the PSP version which was shown w/ box art as if it was ready to go when the PSP was unveiled years ago? It's funny too, because it's not a case like the Tekken 6 looking WORSE this year than it did last year, which is basically on Namco. GT is Sony's own product, and probably their flagship in-house game that's synonymous w/ the PS brand. It shows so well what lengths they'll go to to keep the hype machine rolling. And PSP users are supposed to be excited about downloading the original Ridge Racer onto the system when the new PSP versions are totally better? HA!

Everyone, including me, who saw GTHD at E3 seemed to think it looked boring. Plague, get a 360, an HDTV and start enjoying your racing again! Even though I've only played PGR3, it's amazing despite the load times, and the online component is really cool. Plus I've heard other racing games for the system are perhaps better.

the PS3 and GT will always be there if you want to go back /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sony has a lot invested in Blu-ray and PS3. If they succeed, then Sony is laughing all the way to the bank.

GT:HD is not a real game...

It's only made to showcase the PS3 at its initial unveiling. The real sequel to GT has not been made yet. They are also currently testing an online version of GT4, which is not available for sale currently, but there are tons of people already playing it online as we speak.

I think they might sell it though (probably for like 4980 yen in Japan).

As far as PS3. I'm really excited about Armored Core 4, VF5, MGS4, Warhawk, other new IP like Resistance.

It's sad that Xbox 360 failed in Japan and did poorly in Europe, it pretty much doomed the system. If PS3 sells well worldwide... it's pretty much a done deal in Japan, just like last generation.

And then Japanese publishers will support it, and put out awesome games for it.

The best games on 360 right now for me are Dead Rising, Table Tennis and Lost Planet. Capcom is simply amazing.

Wii will put a cool spin on this whole thing too! It's like a wildcard!

Anyway, it's a win-win for gamers. More choice, more variety, it's gonna be a fun generation.

Armored Core 4 was confirmed for the 360 as, wasn't it?

There's no getting around T6 and VF5 if you want a fighting game station you'll probably be stuck with the PS3. Problem is, where are the 2d fighters going. Many bet they'll get ported to the Wii since both Sony and Microsoft seem to have deemed 2d games to be something of the past. (I hope the ports to the trusty PS2 will continue on that front though.)

I never realised online gaming didn't hit off all that well in Japan. Supremely logical now that I think of it though, just never saw it.

I have no idea how good the 360 is doing around here in Europe. I've heard of a lot of people leaning that way but I know no one who actually got one. Still, I don't see piles of them lying around in stores either, on the contrary, when I asked they told me, they're sold out. Europe is a somewhat slow market overall though, this only gets compounded by the fact that most units of hard and software are distributed in America and Japan first and in greater numbers.

Especially that first aspect gets to a lot of people here, since Americans have usually been playing a certain game for three months before it gets here. There are a few exceptions though. We're actually getting a PAL release of KoF:XI on PS2 before the American version for a change. On the other hand there has been no PAL release of XenoSaga 1 at all... The title is in German for chrissakes, and you can't even play it in Germany! (Unless you hack or import)

here in LA, the Circut City store I camped out at back in 2000 had I think 16 PS2's at launch. If you think that represented launch day, and according to the article, there will be 400k available on launch day, with 1.1 million more to come (supposedly) before the end of the year, that's 600k roughly/month for Nov/Dec. So, the average big retailer might get 20 units a month for the rest of 2k6. Just guessing what it might look like.

If VF5 hits at launch in Japan for some reason, and there IS region coding on the PS3, those 100k Japanese machines are going to be very hard to come by I think.

Don't worry, VF5 is not going to hit at launch.

Well, its possibly going to hit on the European launch...

Which could make me either very happy or very sad...

I was actually hoping to get a PS3 after the first price drop, shortly after VF5 came out. With the thing being delayed in Europe I'll either have to wait 6 months to a year or swallow the 600€ full price (plus cable, plus extra controller, plus games)...

On the other hand I could possibly get my hands on a VF5/PS3 deal package, cutting back a little on the costs...

    Aside:
I can easily foot the bill, but that doesn't mean I want to go out wasting money. Ah, time to insert the usual remedy again: wait and see... (heck, that rhymes)

I highly doubt that there would have been a price decrease before the launch of VF5 even without the delay.

Here is the plan. Wait in line on launch day... buy a PS3. Go directly to Ebay and sell it for no less than 1500. Pay off credit card and use extra money to buy the Ps3.

bingo free PS3 and if you sell it for enough you might be able to get a a copy oif VF5 for free to

One more thing... Sony is underestimating the Wii in Japan. If sales are as well as the DS. Sony is in trouble..Almost like a DS vs PSP situation, but this time they will lose more than videogame maket share. The PS3/Blu Ray plan will crash. Plus who knows maybe MS can sale 100 more sytems in Japan when the big RPGs come out this holiday /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sony betamax or Sony UMD anyone?

If ever you're in my neck of the woods, ask Fagan how he likes testing on it.

Then there's the Wii preachers. I want to punch them in the face. I was interested in the console, untill they came out in force with there "Innovation is what games should strive on" and "The other consoles are so expensive and aren't innovative."

It's the same people that will scoff at you for playing with the eye toy, and keep showing you there iPod and it's 400 useless features. Fuck you.

Wii is targeting the same type of gamer that bought the DS. Everyone scoffed at the idea of a touch screen for gaming, but guess what it worked.

Wii is the console equivalent of DS. Cheap price, not a graphic powerhouse, and innovative.

If the DS is any indication...In Japan I have no doubt Wii will sell very well especially with the short amount of PS3's hitting the market.
