Actually, if you really think about it...

Wii and DS are not going to appeal to the same kind of people.

DS is innovative because it's a portable gaming device. The Wii is not the same. I actually think Nintendo is going to be hurt with regards to the Wii by their stubborn stance on innovation.

The DS did not sell due to the innovation in hardware, it's mostly due to the fresh take on games that the DS offered. It's also rather unique in the sense that the games that sold the system (in Japan), such as Nintendogs and the Brain Training games, are taylored to take advantage of the fundamental concept behind a portable gaming experience.

The same can not be said for the Wii.

I'm just not sure if the public is ready for something like the Wii to take place of the more traditional forms of gaming like the PS3, at least in terms of living room gaming. I'm rather confident that Nintendo is well aware of this as well, thus the strategy to target non gamers with the Wii. I don't see Wii being able to take off as much as the DS, but PS3 will definitely dominate once again due to the library of games once Summer or Fall 07 hits. ...imo

Seriously, I have very little opinion on Wii other than "I don't know - I might not try it 'cause part of me fears change."

I'm not bashing you on your opinion. I was intrigued by your vehemency. I don't mind if you hate the Wii.

I get what you mean about the iPod thing. This is sort of the oppositie scenario - I bought the new LG Chocolate phone from Verizon just 'cause it's the first time I've looked at a phone and thought "OMFG - I WANT that phone." Someone asked me "so, how many songs does it hold?" Fuck if I know. I use it to take and make calls.

As much as I bitch, I'm still curious about it /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It's just the more people try to push it on me, the less I want to give it a chance. I know I want a PS3, there's no way around it. Maybe eventually, once there's a few games I want to play, I'll consider buying The Wii. Until then I'll have my PS3, and "But the Wii is cheap" will still be 300$ that I'm not willing to pay for 3 or 4 games that at best tickle my curiousity.

The problem I have with the Wii is that I really don't care about the Wii-mote, which is the main selling point.

Essentially, motion sensing should really be a secondary feature. I'm a lazy bastard, do I really feel like moving my arms around after a hard day of work/school? Hell no. I want to come home, have a beer, relax and play games.

Then there are people who tell me "Oh, but you don't have to wave your arms around, you can just flick your wrists..."

Then what the fuck is he point of the wii-mote if all I'll be doing is flicking my wrists? Just give me a controller and let me flick my thumbs. At least then I can lay down on the couch while I'm playing.

Of course, from what I've seen, it's not really the most accurate thing in the world. I saw a lot of people who had trouble with Link's (legend of Zelda) bow. It seems so difficult to just shoot an arrow. And then there's the FPS games, when they have that little sensor bar that seems so troubling.

Then there's the games. Honestly, a lot of those games don't seem like they deserve my $50. If they were packaged together like Eyetoy play, then I might buy them. But right now, they all seem like mini games (or games that would do better on DS). Then there's wii sports which feel like a mini game of a real sports game (i.e. something virtua tennis would throw in for extra replay value).

Of course, then there's the graphics. And the Virtual Console (where you can download and play all old Nes, Snes, N64, Genesis, and Turbografx games)...but I'd rather stick to free emulation.

The only things I like about the Wii is the price and Zelda (which will probably be the only reason I'll consider buying a Wii).

I prefer the PS3 motion sensing simply because it sucks so much. It's an afterthought, an optional feature, a bonus, a cheap replacement for rumble...

It is not the main focus of the console.

I prefer the Eyetoy for the same reasons (not the main focus of the console). And I find it to be much more "innovative" than the wii-mote (technically, I should be giving that title of innovative to Sega and the Dream Eye). Has anyone seen the game called The Eye of Judgement? That's a cool "innovative" feature...at least, much more innovative than a Guncon-all-in-one wannabe.

With the eyetoy, it should be technically possible to use your finger as a sword/gun rather than using something like the wii-mote. And the finger>>>>>>all...

Of course, I'm sure the Wii will do well in Japan. Maybe in the first couple of years, it'll do well all around the world. But it will eventually die down and fade away like the Gamecube. I mean, in a few years, I honestly believe we just won't be seeing anything cool being done with wii-mote (perhaps the occasional must have game, but there will be a ton of crap), or, at least, nothing cool enough for my $50.

And this console "race" really can't be compared to the DS. Nintendo is a giant in the handheld industry. The only real competition it has had was from the PSP. The reason the DS is doing so much better is because it has a ton of really good games (and good games that are suitable for a handheld) compared to the PSP. The PS3 on the other hand already has a ton of really good games announced. Returning franchises like VF5, MGS 4, FFxiii and new IP's like Resistance, Eye of Judgement and Assassin's Creed (Hey cuz, you guys testing this game yet? If so, is it any good?). While the Wii has Nintendo first party games...and wii sports. /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

FYI the new Zelda (for the Wii) is also coming for the game cube. So if you have the GC, and you're not sure about the Wii just get that one.

I also hate the name Wii. I can't beleive I haven't written that down yet. Cuz I really really despise it.

And Poppa, can't really discuss much about work online...

But while I would get a GC, I would also want the future Zelda games that would come out on the Wii. I won't be buying a Wii right away anyways, I'll be waiting for a price drop and an announcement on the new zelda. Plus, I may pick up Super smash bros and a Metriod game. I remember Super smash on N64 was fun and apparently the new FPS style of Metroid is cool (I just hope I can use a regular controller). And since the Wii is fully backward compatible, I figured I should pick it up when it gets to around $150...

I hate the name too. I have taken to calling it the wee-wee.

    Clever, I know.

But I still think it will be sweet. I have to buy it for Zelda and Mario and Mario Kart. I am dying to play a Wii-Punch-Out.

Totally random, but Oblivion is so freakin sweet.

GT:HD is not a real game...

It's only made to showcase the PS3 at its initial unveiling. The real sequel to GT has not been made yet. They are also currently testing an online version of GT4, which is not available for sale currently, but there are tons of people already playing it online as we speak.

[IGN]Gran Turismo HD is split into two modes of play. In GTHD Premium, players get to sample a portion of Gran Turismo 5, with two brand new courses and 30 cars that fully make use of the PS3's capabilities.[/IGN]

This new GT:HD doesn't really feel like a real game... more like a demo disc like the GT4 preview disc that came out for sale.

And yeah... it seems like the other non demo mode will be based on the GT:HD demo shown and you must pay a fee to access any of the content... it feels more like a demo with an online experiment disc.
