In 2 days! World Cup Soccer will begin.

Who else is as excited as I am about this event? What are your favorite teams?

I'm pretty excited about the World Cup, which finally starts today!

Although I don't think they'll win, I'm backing Portugal. I'll be happy if they make the semis /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

Fun fact: The stadiums in Japan which are near railway lines have had all the rocks around the tracks glued! If you've ever seen the stupid post-game riots you'd understand why /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

nycat you only pick one team from each group? mmmm that leaves the other spot open for error /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

I only got to see the last few minutes of France vs Senegal this morning. Surprised that France lost 0:1.

lots of room for surprise, yes! The vast majority of Senegalese players play professionally for French clubs. A little like an apprentice who's learned his lessons well, and now faces his master like VF here in NYC! France must now win two in a row to qualify for next round.

Way to troll, GLC! /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif I won't stoop down to your level though, so all I have to say to Poland is, good luck! They have some work to do for that no.2 spot in the group behind Portugal /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

Anyway, I'm happy about Denmark's 2-1 defeat over 'dirty' Uruguay (Uruguay defeated Australia for a spot in the World Cup.)

Poland is likely to get smacked by Korea, they've been playing well lately plus they're the hosts - even the grass helps them :p

    No Problem.

For anyone who hasn't got the time to check out all those links I listed, I would recommend you at least pay a visit to the BBC site if you are looking for comprehensive coverage.

It has a page dedicated to every player - and team - in the tournament.

Here are some links to some of these pages, based on some teams people have mentioned in this thread:

    BBC England pages:

    BBC Portugal info:

The U.S. Page can be found here:
