Hi, I'm just wondering where some of the wrestling throws come from. Some are obvious as they are named after the real move. But what about the others. I have no idea where Wolf's KS (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif) and Turbo Drop 3rd (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif) came from. I'm thinking from Japanese wrestling.

Many of Wolf's throws (and some of Jeffry's and El Blaze's) come from legendary wrestler's signature moves. A wrestler's popularity seems to have been a deciding factor in which throws feature in VF.

Here is the list of throws and who made them famous (the one's I am sure about):

I know most of El Blaze's moves have been done by Rey Mysterio and other Luchadores but I don't know many of their names. Any one else know the ones I have missed (or can correct me on the ones I have so far)?

El Blaze has the Kenta combo off of one of his sabakis and the knee followup after the Rocket Discharge.

And I'm pretty sure that the multiple chops are off of Kobashi and not Flair.

    Just a couple quick updates:

Calf Branding (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif out of catch/change) was originally Ivan Koloff I think (this is going way back).

Frankensteiner was Scott Steiner, not Rick.

Jeffry's Splash Mountain is NOT a Razor's Edge, it is the Black Tiger Bomb used by Eddie Guererro when he wrestled in New Japan Pro Wrestling as the junior heavyweight Black Tiger.

The low throw referred to as running (inverted) powerslam (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif) was actually a move done by the Steiner Brothers as well, mostly Rick, but Scott used it on occasion. The difference when they used it, was that it was usually used to land the opponent into the corner turnbuckle for further punishment.

The rest looks pretty good, you've done your homework /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

In VF2/VF3 Wolf seemed to be heavily modeled after Scott Steiner, combined with a more Japanese influence. As he evolved in VF4/VF5, he's now very diverse and takes a little bit of everyone's style. His emphasis is mostly on power, technique, and a little bit of agility thrown in. Although his agility is pretty subtle, w/ moves like flying zero, and his tornado sabot kick that actually slow him down (which is contradicting, these are speedy/agility moves in actual pro wrestling).

The frankensteiner was a mistake - I meant Scott.

Thanks for the rest - I have updated the list.

What about the throws I have missed? I don't know where the KS, Giant Swing or most of El Blaze's throws come from for example. It would be good to get a complete list for wrestling fans.

Wolf's STF is probably based more on Masahiro Chono's STF and not John Cena's STF-U.

His Burning Hammer (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif) is a move of Kenta Kobashi's (not sure about Burning Driver though). Same goes for the Grand Sword (ground throw, face down at head).

I know Giant Swing was used by Hiroshi Hase (and supposedly Gorilla Monsoon). I don't know if either of those two were the first though.

German Suplex (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif from behind) is Karl Gotch's move.

The Schwein (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif from Catch) is CIMA's move.

The Olympic Slam is the right side throw, and both Exploders (normal and Wrist Clutch) are Jun Akiyama's moves (Yuji Nagata uses them both too).

Dangerous Backdrop (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif from Change) - Dr Death Steve Williams and Takeshi Morishima.

Both Emerald Frosion moves (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif from head collapse) are Mitsuhara Misawa's. The reverse one probably is as well.

Half Nelson Suplex (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif) I think was Gary Albright's.

I also have a feeling Jeffry's Number One Buster (normal side throw) is Takeshi Rikio's "Musou Impact".

I can't think of any others right now. If I do, I'll post them.

Thank you for the hard work! The list is coming along now. Still need info on the bloody KS and Turbo Drop 3rd!!

Seeing as VF4 onwards branched out and started putting American wrestling moves in there (F5, Pedigree etc) - I suspect other famous moves will be included in the next games. Cena's F-U will probably pop up in VF6 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif (I predicted Triple H's Pedigree would have been in Final Tuned and I checked the moves list when it was first released to see that I was right! - I couldn't wait for VF5 to be released in Europe so I could finally Pedigree someone!)

I also know a lot of Tekken and DOA throw origins but there's not much point sharing them on a VF forum!

Thanks for all you help - I've updated the original post. Can anyone help and complete the list?

This is what we want to see for Wolf in VF6! Even if it lasted this long it still wouldn't drain as much life as it did in VF2!

Don't remember exactly what throw command it is for Blaze, but it is at 47 seconds into this vid. It's the Hammerlock Legsweep DDT

Not sure about the KS, but the Turbo Drop Third was supposedly a move used by Wolf Hawkfield (Jim Steele) in All Japan Pro Wrestling. The Giant Swing has been around for decades, but was made most famous by Hiroshi Hase of NJPW, minus the mega powerful launch that Wolf is capable of doing. In reality, the move was designed to disorient the opponent and get the blood flowing to the head (while making the executer and victim very dizzy), rather than to launch them 12 feet, utterly decimating them like Wolf does.

If you notice, the animation for the giant swing is more true to life in VF5 (they finally modified the motion capture that they have been using since VF1). Also, the launch caused buy GS is not as far in VF5.

Regarding Jeffry's military press slam (obviously one of my personal favorites to do =)). This is not modeled after the Ultimate Warrior's. This is a generic version used by any power wrestler from Doctor Death, to Hawk and Animal. The Ultimate Warrior would drop the opponent face first, behind him. Jeffry doesn't land the move in this manner.

The dangerous backdrop is also known as the "back drop driver," and it was also used by the late Gary Albright and Toshiaki Kawada; although I believe it was Albright who invented it...

I remember that Hiroshi Hase's Burning Spirit move in Giant Gram 2000 was the special Giant Swing. He'd grab the opponent and then you could rotate the analog stick repeatedly and get more turns. A counter would appear on screen and I think the audience would count as well. That game is easily one of the finest wrestling games ever, along with No Mercy and most of the Fire Pro series.

    <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENT2KJy3Hvw"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENT2KJy3Hvw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

That has some of Wolf's past and present moves. I miss the Screwdriver (and doesn't Steiner look weird), and Stan Hansen's Western Lariat is one of the greatest moves ever.

Edit - Alex Shelley is awesome, and him and Chris Sabin are the best thing in TNA right now.

It reminds of King's giant swing from Tekken. Silly Namco.

Agrees Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin are damn hot property in TNA right now as is Kazarian/Kaz. Just a damn shame they can't do continuity or know what works and what doesnt in TNA. With no clear identity to who is heel or face. Thats my TNA rant done lol.

Anyway Wrestling moves, Toe kick stunner - was also used by Johnny Ace as a variation of the Ace Crusher prior to Steve Austin use of the Stunner.

Smackdown Bottom - Though popularized by The Rock and called the Rock Bottom, It is named officially a Ura-nage Suplex. Which in itself is an incorrect translation Ura Nage means to throw from behind. The proper throw term is a Sambo Suplex, a slight variation of Saito Suplex originated from wrestler Masa Saito

Kryponite Krunch/Celtic Cross is now also employed as a finisher by Gail Kim in TNA.

The Jackhammer - Vertical Suplex into a Powerslam was innovated by Jaguar Yokota, a japanese female wrestler whose heyday was late 70s and throughout the 80s. Dean Malenko used it earlier in his career in Japan.

Elevated DDT - The first time i saw it used was the Vampire Warrior back in mid 90s at Indy shows and the original ECW, the Vampire Warrior later became known as Gangrel.

Burning Hammer isnt done by many wrestlers simply because its so dangerous, Kenta Kobashi is the most recognized user of it, Kotetsu Yamamoto was the originator of the move back in the 70s.
Other users include Christopher Daniels in Japan where he wrestles as "Curry Man", Dan Maff in CZW and Mark Briscoe in Ring Of Honor.

Some good info there. But the point of this list is to find out where AM2 got the idea for the moves. Without The Rock, it would be incredibly unlikely that the Uri-Nage would be one of Wolf's throws. I simply wanted to know why they included the moves - Stone Cold's Stunner and Goldberg's Jackhammer are very popular moves and is most likely why there are in the game. I will add some of the info though, thankyou.
