First of all, let me say that I am one of the few humans on earth that LIKED the first X-Men. I didn't love it though, just liked it. I loved X-2. How they plan on beating it I don't know...

Anyways I only have a few complaints about X2:

    ======SPOILERS=======

    1) Colossus didn't get enough screen time, but then neither did Iceman in X1.
    2) Wolverine, as always, keeps killing off all the COOL badguys. Dammit man, show some self control!
    3) Not enough new characters. This, however, ties into the other half of my post:

    X-3: Predictions and Expectations
    1) Characters I want to see: Gambit, Juggernaut, Beast, Omega Red, Psylocke, Silver Samurai (okay I'm no expert some of these may not be Xmen per se, heh)
    2) Fights I want to see: Iceman vs Pyro, Colossus vs Juggernaut (if they include him), Omega vs Wolverine (classic).

Adding juggernaut may be a problem though... he may end up having to be CGI like the Hulk and look quite fake.

Lastly... my favorite character in X2 wasn't any of the xmen at all actually.... it was the CAT! Talk about comic relief. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I'm no comics fan and my knowledge of the characters and x-men 'universe' is limited to childhood memories of saturday morning cartoons (i.e. practically zero), but I didn't mind x1 at all.

Someone told me the opening scene to x2 was worth the movie ticket alone, and they were right. That was just brilliant, and if I had to choose a favourite x-men, it'd have to be Nightcrawler for that scene alone.. though he's nothing like what I remember him from the Capcom games /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Overall I thought x2 was alright. During the movie they showed the preview for LXG. That looks pretty interesting.

I thought X2 was quite cool too, and you're right about the opening scene. Nightcrawler is done really well. (The german accent was a bit overdone tho)
Stuff i want to see in X3:
    Mystique vs. Nightcrawler fight!
Dark Phoenix, though i doubt Famke Janssen will portray her well.
More Magneto coolness like his escape from prison. (I thought the 'iron from blood' idea was lame, but the rest of it was seriously impressive)
    Psylocke
    Bishop

Being a comic nut myself...I found the second movie to be quite good

There's only a few issues I have with the movies.

    A) Generation problems. I always thought that the fab 5 should have been the way to go. Of coz, strangely enuff, fans seem to think of wolverine being x-men's leetest, coolest, toughest, etc etc etc etc..number 1 in all category. Thus, I am not at all suprised again that in the 3rd movie..it will be abt logan n his 'jesus let's just keep the audience guessing' logan files again. (the truth is..the editors cannot figure out a story for him!)

Seeing Hank as a cameo on TV kinda miffed me abit..
I wonder when will Warren make an appearance. In a way...if Warren does make an appearance...they better not make him a minor character...but then again..all he can do is fly! Unless, they bring in warren as archangel...which mean apocalypse will be involved...which means 'let's not go there'~~~~ .

In a way...it's refreshing to see a good take on the characters...minus the wham bam thank u aka batman TV series style.

The style of the movie was pretty much wise..like a comic book...except that I dun have to wait for 6 months to complete the story!

Characterization wise...while not entirely accurate...is a hip update for new audiences. So I give them the thumbs up.

I esp like how deadly mystique is on the big screen.

Also, being able to see Magneto finally controlling iron in a person's bloodstream on the big screen...hella kick ass!

Now, if only they can fix up cyclop's role abit in the movie. I don't like how they kinda made him a weeny...a few kicks n punch n cyclops is down.

For those that don't read the comics...it's just kinda...hmmm...boring to see cyclops' role in the movie reduced to 'supposedly team leader, but no one listens to him'. This is a big difference from the comics.

Storm's role in both movies. Why is she there? Really..why? I had originally hoped that she would get more fleshed out in X2....here's hoping that Logan won't get 98% of the screen time in X3.

What suprised me most was *nameless for now* death...

So, x-3 = the famous saga? Or are the viewers gonna get more into wolverine's "help I want to remember who I am why I am like this When I became this Where was the last time I cooked my own breakfast!' memory/past?

Overall..X2 blows X1 into tiny bits n pieces...
A good production by the team.

(maybe if I am lucky, I get to see the sentinels blow logan to bits in X3..good riddance!)

BTW, RX-8 as the official X car = Top Tier! ^^

Well, I think its kinda retarded how they brought out Phoenix from Jean Grey...should of done it like in the cartoon/comic. Never-the-less, it will be awesome to see a character who is simply more powerful than ANY mutant on earth kicking ass. I want to see ALL the characters that got cut cause of budget - sentinels, beast, gambit. Jubilee (maybe...she was always just kinda "eh" to me). Apocolypse!!! Man, I would love to see him even if just as he was in the cartoon - classic moment was when he was talking to Senator Kelly "I am as far beyond mutants as mutants are beyond you." If they want to go really over the top, lets see silver surfer, green lanter, eternity, the beyonder, living tribunal, Molecule man, Hulk (Just think how cool it would be to have hulk go INSAINE, and a cosmic figure having to deal with him!), Thor....list goes on....I would also LOVE to see death(the character)...maybe some hints from the infinity gauntlet.

I don't know about eternity, the beyonder, living tribunal, or Molecule man. But green lantern is from DC comics. What would he be doing in a marvel movie?

You have to take what dean says with a grain of salt, and sometimes, a keg. Have you heard of the one with the night club and go-go dancers on poles? /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If they made a movie to his liking, not only would it not make sense, but it'd probably run for 14 hours.

I'm with you Myke the opening sequence all but paid for my ticket. My only complaint was them focusing on the teeny booper mutants to lure in the young moviegoers. Still any movie that has Halle Berry and Rebecca Romin Stamos as mutants, I'm there.

I think for the 3rd film they should finally bring in the damn Sentinals (sp?). Whenever I read the Xmen that was always who they seemed to be battling.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but if it's anything like the first, I'll wait for the DVD, or cable /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I agree with the casting of the characters from the newer X-men, namely Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, etc. And I'm happy that Nightcrawler and Colossus were included this time around (I would love to see the effects that will be used to bring them to life).

This was a major problem I had with the first X-men. In the comic book, Mystique is nowhere near that dangerous (and neither was the Toad). Mystique is more of a schemer and sabotuer(sp?), and she's more of a leader than a follower. Cyclops is the leader of the X-men, but like you mentioned, his role has been reduced to a sidekick. Too much of the movie focused on Wolverine. Yeah, I know, he has his own book, is the most popular, blah blah blah. But that's not a reason to diminish Cyclop's role as much as was done in the first installment. Jean Grey had a bigger role than he did.

The Sentinels would be a great addition if there's going to be an X-men 3.

That said, I'm still looking forward to seeing it.

I'd have to agree with Myke on this one. I understand that this is just an "over-the-top" scenario, but that would make the movie too long, and it would have too many factors to address. Some of the characters you mentioned are dead (Silver Surfer, The Beyonder). And it's not like Eternity and the Living Tribunal made regular appearances in the comics anyway, being god-like cosmic entities.

    Just my two cents.

That reminds me of what I've been hearing how much better the 2nd movie is than the first. The first movie was really good. But as always when there is a sequel there is this sudden tendency to slam the first film.

The first film was really good and I think did an excellent job setting up the characters for the sequel.

To very quickly touch on the Cyclops point (before I have to start work)...

I was a big fan when younger, so I don't know if this applies, but...even though Cyclops is the leader of the X-men, there was never really that much dedicated to him specifically. He was never a primary character in the comics or a character developed to any great degree. (OK, so he had issues with Psylocke...big deal).

I actually like Cyclops' role in the movies. Not all the X-men are "dark and cool"...some of them are very much Mr. American, good-old-two-shoews I'm-a-weener like Summers.

Cyclops was a very important and very well developed character in the X-men comics. He was one of the founding members, and several major stories revolved around him during his time as the leader of the X-men (he was replaced by Storm on at least one occasion). His character saw good development when John Byrne was at the helm (Savage Land, the Dark Phoenix episode), and there were several stories in which he played a major role during the time when Dave Cockrum was drawing for the title. Of the original five members, Cyclops was the one character who has been with the team the longest. He, along with Professor X, has seen the development of the second team (Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, etc.). And he's been around long enough to see Psylocke, Rogue, and some of the newer people join the team.

I don't want to get into a war of words with you or anyone here about anything, especially about something like characters in a comic book. I just "voiced" my opinion about what I didn't like about the first X-men movie. The action was nice, and maybe the writers, directors, etc. didn't want to stick so close to the comic in terms character development, roleplaying, etc. But it would have made the movie more likeable, in my opinion. To each his own, I guess.

Never said all at once...but a few of the really more powerful characters would be great, and help divert the movie from an "all about wolverine" story line.

I'm not that familiar with the comics. How does Jean Grey become Phoenix?

My experience is limited to the X-Men VS. games and some of the cartoons.

If they really want to go over the top they could make a movie version of Crisis on Ifinite Earths. Nothing is better than watching supergirl die:)

You should probally research this on google, but from what I remember, the phoenix "takes her on", kind of as a symbiotic relationship during an episode that the xmen where in space. The shuttle they were on was damaged and the phoenix saves Jean grey...again, look it up.

I would. Of course, I'd put on a kryptonite(sp?) condom first. Don't want her flying off while attached.
