I’m enjoying X-box Live more and more these days. In addition to Topspin I recently picked up Counterstrike and Unreal Championship for £17 and £9 respectively – that’s Asda-price gaming for ya.

Now both these titles have been given poor reviews and slated by the press for various reasons. I couldn’t disagree more – they’re two of the finest offering on Xbox in a long time and go to show how clueless the mainstream videogame press are these days.

Counterstrike has received a nice makeover of its environments, but more importantly playing over live with a streamlined interface and everyone equipped with voice-coms just makes it a much better experience than the PC version. Also, the fact that you know everyone has the same rig (no twats running the game at insane resolutions while you struggle at 640x480) makes it feel really balanced and rewarding.

Same goes for Unreal Championship. It’s just so much fun logging on for 30mins and blasting the shit out of everyone in sight, and live just makes the experience so much more relaxing and hassle-free than UT2003 on PC. The frame rate issues with this title have been smoothed out with a patch, so for the most part it runs at 60fps and only drops when lots of action kicks-off.

yup fps on pc's feel more natural playing with mse/keybrd but you gata have a monster machine to play the game at its full potential. fps's on consoles are a cheaper solution (and almost just as fun).

I don't have X-box live but I use the Xbox tuneel and I gotta addmit playing Halo with 16 people is the best shit ever, the thing that makes it fun is that you can acctually talk using the Tunnel sofware. To get on topic: Unreal Championchip is a pretty good game but you must have online play to enjoy it, the Single player mode sucks, I made the mistake of buiying the game when I didnt have the XT, but its pretty cool and fast pace, expecially fraging with low grav and the hammer

Yea, online multi-player Halo is incredible. Did this with some work-mates soon after it came out. Was quite troublesome to get everyone connected but worth it in the end.

Unreal Championship is exactly the kind of game I crave these days. Pick-up and play, fast paced and easy to go online with. As a single player game it's pretty redundant but sheer bliss online.

Same story with Counterstrike. Dunno why this got slated so much, it's like the press expected a whole new game when all along it was clearly described as a PC port.
