just so people know (and so I don't look quite as shit, lol) there was lag on the set up at xleague. You didn't plug you stick directly into the 360. There's a lot of times during my match I go for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (with akira) the throw doesn't come out and it looks like I'm doing random pointless low counters. Very frustrating.

prince is still loads better than me and I'm sure I would have lost either way though.

So where on earth did you plug your stick into desk?
    Sounds quite dodgy.

yeah I could see it was like you guys were playing online, looked like your inputs were laggy as there were no hit confirms as far as I could see.

Do you have to be so critical? Cut them some slack! I thought the commentary was fine, especially if you consider the commentators' knowledge of VF was probably not that complete.

Well done to xleague.tv for putting on this event, and hopefully it's a sign of things to come. I thought it looked quite professional, and Emily didn't hurt things either! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Congrats to winner Jason for the win, and runner-up Prince "I don't need the money!" Hatim. LOL! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

p.s. was the "VF Expert" uk-guy?

Yeah Myke, spot on /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif that was UK Guy indeed. Still as cool as ever. I do miss him on the VF scene /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Well done Jason (Jay Sharp) It may have been my char choice but I think it's not just that, Jason understands VF5 well and his skill and mind games have improved too I feel. He's been beating me more often recently, so has MrExpert Opti UK, and a few other players too. I'll blame that on my performance degrading as time goes by, I'm gonna be 33 this year, I've been up at the top of the beat 'em up scene throughout my games playing years. I'm not used to being an average player, that's all I feel like right now.

I guess a few people may call me big headed, I don't know, that's just how I feel these days. Sorry.

    LOL,

I was just watching it again and I heard what the commentator said on VF5: Eps 02 - Part 4 07:21 "Beautiful head-butt to the mid-section" for Shun-di's p+g throw. hahaha, it does look like a headbutt though.

Yeah, I remember that too haha.. was it headbutt though? I thought he said "elbow to the mid section". Anyway, there were lots of little things like that which made me laugh, but were easily forgivable because the commentary was done in good spirits.

Oh yeah, airplane toss for Giant Swing is too good! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Actually, nice one Opti, that nick name is excellent. Prince Wolf. Anyway there was lag, the consoles were on a shelf against the wall and they had mad long USB extension cables from the consoles to the monitors.

Nothing's perfect, at least they organised a tournament for VF5 eh. And it's not all bad, Jason and I discussed splitting the total prize money anyway if we both got to the finals when we signed up months ago, so that's a whopping £125 each lol.

    Setup!!!

The setup is not a simple video feed with two people sitting in front of a screen.

The way the studio has been setup is to do with health and safety as well as hookups between the consoles and the "gallery" where everything is filmed in.

Each of the machines are hooked up via USB, so that you can plug in pads and arcades sticks into the provided USB ports on the side of the monitors.

If you've seen the Games Room studio, you'll notice that none of the arcade sticks are plugged directly into the machines. This is because the consoles are on those metal shelves behind one of the players. It is not possible to plug them straight into the machine on these shelves as it is a health and safety risk and we would be in breach of them if they are plugged in.

The reason why the consoles are on these shelves is because they go into converter boxes to translate and split the signals between the Game Room screens and the equipment used to feed the video directly into the gallery.

I would believe the lag is a combination of the USB leads and the screen being 12ms refresh rate, but saying that, you ain't gonna get a dedicated setup like this across 8 screens in the world. Not even Championship Gaming Series or any LAN tournaments will have this setup.

yeah it's totally understandable since it's all centered around tv filming.

thumbs up to this event, although i can't help thinking this would of been better if it's a 1 or 2 days event, offline in the studio.
no hassle with online meet up, lag issues, and no need to take days off just to play one match during working or college day. for a freelancer like myself, taking a day off without getting paid is not worth doing.

i personally know someone dropped out because the scheduled time is not convenient during his working hours. from experience at unofficial 1 day gatherings, the turn out is usual pretty good, especially for a tournament in this size could attract a whole bunch of old and new players. even if this means traveling for 4-5 hours.

for a fighting game, offline is the best, having a crowd to add energetic atmosphere is an encouraging scene for TV.
