    hey,

what does the vf community say about tekken. we at tz.com are always wondering about that issue. imo vf is the better game in terms of gameplay, but tekken has a lil bit more style.

    ur opinion?

You will get trash talked. J/K
I use to play Tekken (2,3, tag and 5.0) and I liked it. But I didn't know VF at the time ^_^
Anyway, I think the general gameplay reward too much defensive style of play, losing advantage when you attack is just a non-sense to me. And of course, like all namcos, the character imbalance is so pronunced that some character are not playable at all, except if you have really better skills than your opponents, it's sad.
I won't play it anymore, well at least not in a competitive way, why not with some friends but that's it.
Even when I played Soul Calibur recently at a buddy's house I got bored with the gameplay in 10 fights :'(
2D fighters are another story tho

Not a fan of the character designs at all. But, I enjoy the previous games. Haven't played Tekken since three. Never got into it like that. I'm getting Tekken 6 when it comes out for the PS3, just for the hell of it. Tekken to me is like, Smash Bros for grownups.

OK, here's my subjective, personal and ultimately OPINIONATED opinion. I played Tekken 2 quite a lot, a bit of 3, anything else I just saw videos (or arcade cabinest without playing)

1 - Never liked the character design. Way too "wacky", "kool", "sexy".

2 - Never quite liked certain "unrealistic" elements, such as Yoshimitsu's use of the sword

3 - I'd like to get some specific data (and this post is probably a good occasion to), but back in the days of VF2 vs Tekken 2, when those that were playing games were probably thinking of what game they could like best, I thought that VF2 blew Tekken 2 away in terms of graphics.

4 - I like the possibility of a ring out, those kind of infinite rings seemed just dumb to me

5 - I'm not sure if they are still there, but I always disliked those "pixel explosions" that accompanied most hits. What were they? Blood? "Energy"? To me they just seemed like a chep way to hide imperfect collisions betwene characters.

In a nutshell, I became prejudiced against Tekken in the early days and I'm essentially happy with my prejudice. I personally love VF and I personally hate Tekken. I'm not trying to evaluate the two games or make objective comparisons.

I like both for different reasons. I like VF for being technical and rewarding of out-thinking the other opponent. I like Tekken because of the flash, the speed, and Dragunov.

Tekken has always seemed slower and a lot less fluid, which is what makes VF much more fun to play for me. I always felt like I had to wait for my attacks to come out in Tekken, whereas VF was instant. True, Tekken has gotten somewhat more fluid, but it's still not on the level of VF.

I've also never liked Tekken's combo system and ground game, and found that the characters are all completely unoriginal.

I do like King's multithrows though. I wish Wolf had more of them.

like Tomonobu Itagaki said in some interwiew:
Q:what are the 5 worst games of all time?
    A:
    1)Tekken 5
    2)Tekken 4
    3)Tekken 3
    4)Tekken 2
    5)Tekken 1

lol anyway i personally like tekken its definetly much better than DOA,but still tekken has a long way to a VF level of gameplay
you know that a fighting game is unbalanced if it includes kangaroos, bears and robots /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

Tekken 6 new rage system is totally stupid

PS. if someone doesnt already know Itagaki is the leader of team ninja /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

    interesting opinions.

well, if you compare high level match play, both games seem pretty much identical. for noobs tekken is the more fluid game. vf movement is much harder to master.

the char design is very stereotypical, true. i personally love the combos and okizeme, but they are not very realistic, true. look at my youtube account and you'll know why!

3 - tekken 6 arcade (which is running on a ps3-like hardware, you can see the XMB at startup!) looks better than vf5. however, there is still vf5r and someday vf6.

5 - those are still in there. to me it seems to resemble blood. its purpose is to indicate hit strength and makes hits look more flashy.

I personally love Tekken's ground game. I dunno, it just makes sense to me that any attack that hits low to the ground should hit someone on the ground. Probably why I play Blaze now, because I like screwing with people waking up.

Virtua Fighter has also a not so flashy Hit Indicator: Yellow Lightning on CH and blue Lightning on Side Hit.
Yeah, of course, the big explosion from Tekken is so stupid.
But some characters from Tekken are pure evil. Would Bryan Fury be in Virtua Fighter (yeah, without Cyborg-background), I could die happy.

Yeah there are some badass chars in Tekken. Bryan Fury, Kazuya/Heihachi, Steve, Hwoarang. Doctor B. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Tekken is okay; I'd put it a notch or two below VF.

Then again, I'm not as into the genre anymore. Mount&Blade FTW.

think about that VF5 had the first loc.tests already in 2005 the game is alredy pretty old and the graphics arent much better in tekken6. (i have never seen tekken 6 in HD or anything but I dont think the graphics look impressive

Tekken's has one of the best single player experiences (along with SC) for a 3D fighting game. A lot of extras like a background story, a lot of characters, and the gameplay is very friendly and easy to get into it.

But as a serious competitive play i'll stick with VF over any other.

    Kazuya, Baek and Feng FTW!

The characters look cool in posters and picture, but don't you guys think they way they move...are a little stiff? I dunno, for some reason it reminds me of VF1 movement - "blocky, chunky" movement, if that makes sense...even though the characters no longer look blocky and chunky.

I like Tekken, but i don't like the dance>poke>launch>80% life combo scenario that the game essentially breaks down to after awhile. Some character designs are cool, while others seem... out of place. Kangaroos, robots and bears? Come on.

Tekken seems to reward "dialing it in"... i would like it to be more fluid in terms of creating combos on the fly. Flow charts are sort of set in stone. And it seems like you can only combo off launchers.

6 looks decent, but again, questionable character designs (Bob? wtf and don't get me started on that dragon) and the rage system seems very noob friendly, like someone turned on the "keep fights close" option in the settings. And 70% wall combos need to go.
