those are one of the reasons why tekken veterans like me do not like the new installment. too many changes, unbalanced chars and the more causual approach start to kill the otherwise solid series.

This doesn't make any sense at all. If they know the game is already imbalanced hopefully they will correct this before a console release. Tone down the damage off of launchers, and think of a way to punish turtles. Does namco ever watch these videos, come on they need to do their homework.

    With regards to the control system;

I remember reading an article written by a champion Counter Strike player who uses 'W' for jump, and the left mouse button as 'Forward'...........

Heh, it was a while ago, so time may have embellished that the dude was a champion.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Leave PC gaming controls out of this - anything goes. I have a friend plays FPS with the weirdest config ever, run on left mouse button, rocket weapon switch on the right mouse button and the keyboard switched 90°. Dude plays with SQAZ, fires with space (remember, it's vertical), jumps with ~, you name it. MaJ's a champ too, won a tourney of Painkiller back home, although he'd rather boast about his CPMA performance.

PS: that's not my desktop & that's not me in the pic.

LOL. Since when does Namco pay attention to their fighting games? I still have the awful taste of SC2 Yoshimitsu and T5 Steve in my mouth (weird statement that invokes disturbing images, but nevertheless, in a figurative way, very true).

I can't believe that is Tekken 6. I guess Namco are putting all of their resources on Soul Calibur 4.

1 - Animations seem as bad and mechanical as ever
2 - The way they move is just bad.
3 - Those red explosions are even more annoying
4 - The "get a lifter, dial in a combo, watch your opponent lose 70% of his life" motif is still there
5 - Sound effects are absolutely ridiculous

The only good thing seemed the music, to me.

Look, I wouldn't trade that whole game with the blue sky of Jeffry's stage in VF.

I thought T2 and T3 were good games, especially the third. I just can't see how people could like what's in the video over something like VF5...

I just can't stand the movement in the game. Every time I play I just want it to have the same sort of dash and crouch dashes that VF has...

Music is the only thing Tekken does better overall than VF. Well, music and story, but there's not really much competition with regards to the latter.

"Blue Sky in Games" campaign at it's best.

Also, those two matches that erdraug posted were unbelievable. I want my 9 minutes back.

Same. I just can't understand why Tekken can't adopt a normal dashing system. Stairstepping/snakedashing/whatever you want to call it just seems like complication for the sake of complication.

If you do some googling on VF and mocap, it seems like most of the stuff that's out there suggests very little if any mocap goes in the VF. I wish someone could clear this up officially. I think I've asked this question many times before.

I've seem some pretty sad stuff before, but I'm afraid this pretty much says it all. I cannot believe this is a real match. It has to be two players just being silly. It was painful to watch. I was kinda waitin for some kind of april fools banner to scroll across the screen.

This was really sad... No wonder the fighting genre is dying out....

I thought I'd heard that VF5 was mocap, but then they let animators edit it and add key frames on top to "clean-up" the raw mo-cap data basically. I don't remember where I heard that... hope I'm not making it up.

As for control scheme, the "intuitive" stuff I've heard about Tekken is all pretty basic. It was just stuff like... left punch = LP, right punch = RP, and all double palms are therefore LP+RP. At a very basic beginner level, if you gives you some idea what your controls will do, but since attack height/frames is what really matters, it doesn't help better players.

Honestly, I can't stand playing any fighting game controls except VF. Every single game has a basic trinity of attack/block/throw as the core gameplay, and yet VF is the only game where these are 3 completely seperate, non-ambiguous inputs.

That is to say, when back = guard, you can't seperately choose to walk back or guard... it's context sensitive. If your opponent is attacking you, then back is guard, if they aren't attacking, then back becomes walking backwards. Likewise with street fighter style throws... if you press 6P by itself, it's a punch, but if your opponent is at a specific range it becomes a throw... that just seems stupid to me. Anyone who thinks context sensitive controls are a good idea should be shot.

(Also: can someone tell me why street fighter needs 6 buttons??? VF has ~150 moves per character, and "6" buttons in P/K/G/P+K/P+G/P+K+G... Street fighter has something like 50 moves per character, and yet they have 6 distinct buttons, and also require multiple button presses, and also don't have guard mapped to a button?! I just don't understand why more buttons than I have fingers was ever considered a good idea.)

I used to play Jin,Hwang, and Lei. People were complaining about the animation in Tekken, and I somehwat agree. But SC series nearly had the same fluidity and animation as VF. It sorta confuses me that Tekken was never delivered with the same fluidity as SC when Namco had the capability/technology to do so.

    Checkers Vs. Chess
In terms of gameplay, Tekken is easier to learn but there is less capacity for enjoyment whereas VF takes practice and time but the capacity for enjoyment and rewards are bigger.

BTW-Someone mentioned that Tekken 6 looked better than VF 5. Can you explain this too me? I saw several videos of Tekken 6, and the lighting looked bland, and stage and character details comes nowhere near VF 5. The animation of course is still bulky.

Hope this doesn't turn into another Tekken Vs. VF tread. Namco repeatedly admitted that VF is a superior game. They had nothing too lose by admitting this because it was almost an established fact by the gaming community in Japan. Guess it was just Penis Envy.

I got disapointed with tekken when I put my hands on T5. Now I'm learning VF4E but still it's hard for me the throw escape system and all the ultra fast moves like multiple throw escapes... and the just time to tech roll certain techniques... not to mention some of Akira's moves... specially the release G after one frame wich I haven't been able to make one time in my life. and the 3 hit combo that ends with B,F,F P+G I think... it's just too much for my hands.

And I have problems with Lei Fei, and I cant get used to the foot position... I'm improving little by little.

The throw system that I cannot throw an opponent if the opponent is attacking, and the fact that I cannot do okizeme and that I cannot jump over my opponent when he's standing to kick them on their back...

Sidestep works fine, but in general I still have a looong way to go, Tekken is easier, but I dislike a lot the super fast recovery time on T5... and T6 is more of the same, T6 is crazy.

IMO listening to Tekken does sound like it has more action, but VF to me has that "kung-fu" movie sound Fx...

Really? No wonder Tobal is one of my favorite fighting game series ever! ^_^

It also had one of the best grappling systems of any fighting game ever! Man, that game really brings me back...

Hmmm...I've only seen that in videos of T5-6, I've never seen ppl really do it online...It does look funny though! lol

Hey Frozenworm, I've seen you over on TZ too, I'm Lucid_Nightmare over there as well...

Anyways, I hear you on the difficulty of the throw escapes in VF...I really have a long way to go on those, same with most of Akira's techniques....

The tech rolls, I've got those down now, but it definitely took a while! lol

I keep hearing stuff about Tobal's grappling system, but no one ever says what it is. Someone please clear this up for me, because I wanna know what it is Tobal did to make its grappling gamer-community renowned.
