You mean their up button isn't placed at the thumb?

I believe he mean it is not placed at the top (WSAD style), but that the UP button is the lowest button on the stick [IMG]

It seems weird when you think about it on paper, but I can see how it would feel very natural and ergonomic in actual use. The thumb, the strongest and most separate finger, is used for an action (jump) which implies commitment/attack in mentality and actual play.

Left, down, and right are grouped together with the fingers which most often help each other out and function concurrently, which is what you need for all the QCF/QCB/HCF/HCB motions.

I have quite the opposite experience - all the years of playing all kinds of games with mouse and keyboard, I use thumb for crouch (or sprint), and pinky finger for jumping - because you must hold crouch for longer periods and while doing so with pinky finger, you hamper your other fingers (especially your ring finger, since they are not independent).

On a hitbox, pinky finger is not used, but the original point stands - for me, holding down to crouch is best done with thumb.

I have years of FPS/MMO experience so I"m very used to the three buttons for movement and the spacebar for jumping. It's a natural thing to me.

I think the question is which thumb.

Zass (the friend I referred to in that previous post), actually uses his right thumb on Up instead of left thumb. He had to relearn all the other fingers on his right hand as a result (though maybe less than other people would, since he used a non-standard button setup before he got the hitbox), but claims he gets his 360-throws faster by being able to alternate hands for the directional buttons.

Not the way I would do it, and I don't believe it's the way R_Panda does it. But it's interesting.

From the videos on finger placement you can use either thumb you want. Nothing really unique about that.

Yeah, that's true. It just didn't sound like everyone was aware from some of the posts. And the real "unusual" thing Zass does is that he uses index finger on guard now, rather than double-book any of his fingers. Maybe that's not as unusual as I think, though.

I talked with Zass about this topic on his second or third day of owning the hitbox.

It's a hard call BC I like right thumb for up and I'd probably doubl book my thumb, but I did tell him US style arcade VF1-2 were index on guard and Koreans play index on guard. I prefer thumb on guard because certain sequences cause strain for me on index on guard but at least there were enough people playing that way at very high levels to support it.

I play on Hitbox, went straight to it from pad, too. To me, adjusting was quite easy. [IMG]

The whole "you can block both ways" thing is really annoying to me. First off, all Hitboxes bought from the Hitbox guys are built to have [4]+[6]= neutral. Maybe one can mod that away, but why should honest players be penalized because of cheating douchebags?

Second, Hitboxes can never provide an advantage beyond what is allowed in the games programming. To use the "block both ways" example: If a modded controller, whether a Hitbox or something else, allows you to block both ways in a 2D game, THE GAME IS PROGRAMMED WRONG. It annoys me that Hitbox players are essentially pre-emptively penalized for something only dishonest people would do, and that can only work if the game itself has been programmed wrong. The same argument goes to stuff like MK9 instant air gasblasts with Kabal. Sure, Hitboxes allow one to do IAGBs ridiculously fast, and the argument could be made that this is too strong. However, if that is the case, it's Netherrealms responsibilty to tweak the recovery of air projectiles, not the guys who manufacture a gaming peripheral. Besides, Michelangelo did ridiculous IAGB stuff and Nomad dash cancels with a simple PS2 pad.

Moving on to a different aspect of playing on Hitbox, I personally suck at stagger recovery, but that's mostly because of my reactions. When training on stagger recoveries in Dojo mode specifically, I don't find it all that difficult to do. Take this with a grain of salt, however, because I am new to VF in general. [IMG]

    Help me please guys.
I made a pre-order for 225$ Hitbox on their official site Hitboxarcade.com on Sunday.
Today (Tuesday) they PURCHASED my card (not pending), but without any Shipping notifications! Also they not answered on my requests about my order (hitboxes@gmail.com), no any feedback at all!

Is it normal and is there cause for concern?

From what I heard, they are really serious about their bussines.
From what I experienced, I get 0 response on my mails.

This is my same issue with staggers. Not an issue with Hitbox but with my own ability to deal with them atm. I think stick and Hitbox is just about equal in regard to speed of recovering maybe slight edge to stick since you can just wail on it.

I'm sorry but 225 for a hitbox is insane!

it's cheaper and easier to produce than a normal arcade stick.

Yea I thought they were definitely charging more for the name. I paid $165 for mines last summer after being on a waiting list for about 4 months. Paid $80 (including shipping to and from) a few weeks before EVO to get it modded to play on the 360. Still if I could build them myself I would but I just don't have the skills.

After I find someone who had one in NYC or at one of the tournaments I go to in August I'm just going to build my own. It's much cheaper.

Yeah, that sounds normal, shouldn't be any cause for concern. For me, about 10 days passed between the initial charge and the shipping notification showing up my e-mail.
