wow, you got a point there. but EVO was a updated version of an already amazing game, so they didnt do all of it by them selves, they had something to work with already.

You would have a point there if not for the fact that Suzuki´s role in VF4 was not already minimal.
    Its mainly a Katagiri/Kataoka game.

Suzuki had little to do with it apart from being producer.

i didnt know that. i thought he was the director too, like in the previous games.

Kataoka has been the primary director of big-name AM2 stuff for a while now. Osaki's been doing a lot recently, as well.

Not meaning to flog a dead horse on this whole argument, but it bugs me how you continually try and down-play Yu Suzuki's role and status on certain AM2 projects.

So what if Kataoka directed and Suzuki produced...anyone with any experience of the VF series can see that VF4 and Evo are pretty-much refinements of VF3, and in many ways less revolutionary, harking back to simpler VF2 mechanics. Fundamentally, therefore, VF4 is 95% a Suzuki game. If the play mechanics were greatly altered or hugely expanded then you might have a reason for putting Kataoka on a pedestal (as you clearly want to)

Same goes for Shenmue 2. How anyone can claim that Yu didn't have a huge role in this game's development is beyond me. He wrote the whole story and developed the engine which both games run on.

But if there's anything fanboys love to do, it's whipping dead animals.

Because it means he is now "demi-god" instead of "god".

By this logic, Fighting Vipers would have to be a Suzuki game as well. It originally ran off of a refined, physics-modified VF2 engine. Same with Sonic the Fighters. And FMM.
For a change, FV2 was mostly done from scratch, but also utilized some elements of VF3 code.
(Then of course, VF4 took a lot of elements from FV2. Go figure.)

See the elements of FV2 incorporated comment above. I've even made a list of everything (that I should probably update:

Well, the story was already written by him, and he's still got a bunch of chapters yet to go, so I suppose that could count as influence. The engine's all done, so all they really have to do is program in the characters and scenarios. So really, he doesn't have to do too much besides look over and OK what they're doing with what he's already written. (He didn't even direct the XB version)

Yea, I'd agree with most of what you've said. Most of Sega's one-on-one fighters were derivatives of the Virtua Fighter engine. Although, there's no denying the differences between Fighting Vipers and VF2 are slightly more significant than VF3 -> VF4.

VF4 is basically VF3 minus 3D terrain, limb IK, and dodge button. Most of the gameplay additions are very subtle. Still an awesome game, mind.
