Hello everyone,
The follow is the translation of the Akira section from a special edition
of a Japanese magazine called Weekly Famitsu, Jan 1997. dedicated to VF3.
Likewise, they hold the copyright to this material.
This is my first time really contributing useful stuff to the rgva by
translating this magazine. Of course, I had the help of Shuntaro, our
local Japanese VFer who just recently came back from Japan over X'mas and
was able to see BunBun and Shinjinku Jacky in action at Spot 21.
Most of the translated material would be very basic for seasoned players,
but there would be information on other characters that may interest you.
I've added some personal comments where necessary to explain the game
mechanics. Thoughout the translations as I post them, I've assumed one
would reconize that lowkick (MC) -> high throw is guaranteed. There's
other stuff I'll omit for the latter character postings, which you'll
notice soon enough.
I hope you'll enjoy it.
Akira concepts
**************
Dashing Elbow/SuperDE followups
=================
SDE/DE(stagger) -> d+PG -> single jump kick (f,f+K)
SDE/DE(stagger) -> crouchdash to lure a miss throw animation
-> meta the crouchdash into f+PK for a shoulder ram float!
-> DLC float
SDE/DE(stagger) -> (if opponent struggle) DE again
SDE/DE(stagger) -> throw
SDE(float) -> DLC float
E-ing options
=============
- Usually after connecting a non-knockdown move (my VF3 philosophy)
- after a BLOCKED DE
d+K
===
If the d+K is blocked the opponent can HIGH throw you as a counter.
If the d+K connects as MC, throw guarantee for Akira
There are some psychological game play for d+K which is detailed for WOlf
and Jeff and can be applied to anyone with a lowkick.
Low Back Fist (d/f+PK)
=====================
LBF(connect) -> DE
LBF(connect) -> shoulder ram
" " -> b,f+PKE
" " -> d+PG
RBC throw (b,d/f+PG)
=========
RBC -> DE
RBC -> SPoD (if opponent E's)
RBC -> throw (if opponent E's)
counterthrows (?)
========================
If you escape the below throws, you can counter Akira during recovery
animation
1. b/d,f+PG
2. d/f+PG
3. b,d/f+PG
d+PG
====
This should be the choice between f+PG and d+PG for the latter has better
recovery time to follow moves.
Stumble Trip (b,d+PG)
====================
ST -> elbow
ST -> single jumpkick ->float
ST -> throw (if opponent E's)
Aircombos
=========
Basically anything that floats, DLC it!
