Lei Fei Dojo

Lei Fei is a character based on strikes and sabaki. Lei Fei has a strong mind game through limiting the options of the enemy. He has the most Sabaki attacks in the game and many of his moves have dodging properties. Generally very easy to use however it takes a lot of skill to fully master and control his stances.

As a striker its important to maintain a mid to long distance. Just slightly beyond throw range. Most of Lei-Fei's moves are most effective at this range. Obviously Lei-Fei has a limited amount of moves within throw range.

Introduction

This guide is written for beginners to intermediate players to be effective against players of the same calibre. You'll find at the higher levels of play its more about defense and creating opportunities and mistakes from your opponent. Many of the combos will be harder to use as people will be defending against them.

This guide is not a substitute for a complete movelist. However it does reflect on more succesful and effective moves and flowcharts.

My name is Kenneth Chan from Sydney, Australia. You can find me on VFDC "virtuafighter.com" under the alias of "ken". Constructive comments and criticism is always welcome there or via email: ken@emagen.com.au. I've been a steady follower of the Virtua Fighter series since VF2 and have been a devoted Akira user. Since the release of VF4 I've since found my groove with Lei-Fei and Lion, "I like Chinese Kung-Fu you Know?".

Lei's strengths:

  • Strong Okizeme game
  • Most sabaki attacks
  • Strong Mid range striking game
  • The best auto-reversal in game. IN stance
  • The best charged attack in game " [DM] P+K". Best range, variable execution times(instantaneous to fully charged), attacks mid and is non counterable.
  • Varied attacks high/mid/low/hop.
  • Good dodge attacks
  • Good variety of linear and non-linear attacks
  • Good throw+combo damage
  • Good dodge/evasive/hopping attacks. Attacks that avoid certain attacks.
  • Best WTF factor, people have been playing the other characters for many many years. This unknown factor is good and bad as opponents will eventually be accustomed to Lei's moves and will be progressively harder to fight.

Lei's weaknesses

  • Limited throw variety and throw oppurtunities
  • Medium speed and limited options at close range.
  • No ring out potential

More tips for success:

  • Its important to make your opponent question themselves. Intelligent use of sabaki and [IN] auto reversal is important to limit your opponent's arsenal. The less they attack you the more you can attack them. Or you let them attack you where you want them to attack you for sabaki chance.
  • Lei's strength is in his sabaki and okizeme game. Like every other character if you can concentrate on getting your opponent on the floor and applying okizeme you'll win more easily. Learn to read what your opponent does when rising. Using distance to gauge his and your options.
  • Create or capitilise on head crumble chances.
  • Need to throw and attack low often to Keep opponent from blocking mid all the time.
  • Dont abuse certain stances or they'll get used to your patterns.
