Last Updated: March 15, 2022 Update - The 2nd Challenge Cup is Sega's official VF5US (Known as VFeS in Japan) events for Japan running from January to March 2022! The Finals for the FREE and U22 categories this March will conclude the Season 0 events! Since the 1st Challenge Cup, several changes have been made to the format.

FREE Finals and Under 22 Finals - March 20th, 2022

FREE Qualifiers - January 23rd, 2022

First, they removed the limit they had placed on number of participants. Previously, if the number of entries exceeded the number of spots available, they held a lottery system--the "0th round"--to determine who can participate in the tournament. They also adjusted the finals to be first to 3 instead of first to 2.

Sega continues its attempt to attract a new generation of VFers. In addition to the FREE category, which has no age restrictions, they have replaced the U19 category with a new category for players between the age of 12 and 22 (U22).

The FREE Qualifiers has 250 players divided into 10 brackets. The winner of each bracket advances to the Finals. You can watch the Grand Finals of each qualifier in the YouTube link above or through the VF Official twitter account.

Players that were unable to participate in the January Qualifiers or got eliminated in their brackets gets a second chance to participate in the offline Finals. 170 plus players competes for the remaining 6 spots of the 2nd Challenge Cup Finals.

The Finals will be held in March with the top 2 players given the opportunity to get a JeSU pro license. This thread will be updated in March for the offline Finals.

A quick update until I have more time to give a proper write up:

Yasokami wins the U22 Finals

Winner of Free Finals - Kamereon (PA)
2nd Place of Free Finals - Chibitarou (JE/PA)

Both Kamereon and Chibitarou upset favorites to reach the grand finals Tonchan and Haato-sama, respectively. I think this is the first time a Pai player won Sega's Japan national tournament (possibly first player that used a female character!?). We also saw Tonchan switching to Akira by the third match (best out of five games) against Kamereon.

In the past the norm for Sega national tournaments was single elimination first to one. With VF5US the tournaments requires multiple wins against your opponent. We may be seeing more players using multiple characters in future events.

Season 1 begins in a month or two. Three Challenge Cups without the Playoffs. At the end of Season 1 (early 2023) there should be an event with the 8 JeSU pro license players.

There will be a storm collectibles action figure for Wolf and Jacky. Akira is the first action figure being made.

At the end of the event, a teaser trailer for the next DLC Collaboration Pack - Tekken 7.
