On Sunday, 10th February 2019, the 2019 Pre Beat-Tribe Cup took place at Game Newton Ooyama. This 5-on-5 character-specific tournament saw a total of 52 teams (260 players!), and was streamed live via the Game Newton Ooyama channels on various platforms simultaneously. The original 12 hour archive has been dissected, timestamped and re-packaged for your enjoyment, along with some interesting stats as well!

Shizawa Corp's twitter account (https://twitter.com/SHIZAWAcorp) has been tweeting out photographs of new vending machines featuring original Virtua Fighter character models, apparently commissioned by Sega! There are a number of designs up on the twitter account so far, with most of the characters from Virtua Fighter being represented! Hit the jump to see the rest.

The tradition continues with this 5-on-5 character specific team tournament ahead of the 17th VFR Beat Tribe Cup finals scheduled the following month. Community stalwart @IcKY99 had an unfortunate turn of events recently with a house fire. Fortunately, he and his family are safe but it'll be roughly 5-6 months before the house will be repaired. After his inspirational beatdowns by Homestay Akira during EVO 2018, a reinvigorated @adamYUKI was driven to create a new chapter in a long standing tradition of Virtua Fighter Gatherings -- the inaugural Los Angeles Gathering (LAG). Taking place over the weekend of 18-19 January 2019, VFers gathered from near and afar to welcome, play against, and learn from the legend himself Homestay Akira who happened to be accompanied by his wife, a formidable VF player in her own right!

On Sunday, 13 January 2019 the annual Kyushu Tentai Cup VF5FS tournament took place in the southwestern island of Kyushu, Japan at the Taito Station Fukuoka Tenjin arcade. The Tentai (Celestial) Cup saw 21 teams entering, consisting of 105 players with many strong players from the north of Japan in attendance!

Virtua Fighter's first major tournament for Europe in 2019 is the Sakura Fight Festa!
Taking place on 4-5 May in London, registration is now open for a great selection of games including Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown! European players, get out there and support the game on your turf!
